I grew up in a community just north of where my husband and I now live and where he grew up. It’s amazing the traditions and different cooking and baking styles everyone around here has compared to what I had even with less than 20 miles separating us our entire lives. Before I had met my husband, I had never tasted anything like this ranch cracker mix or the fantastic Garlic Ranch Pretzels I have previously posted about. His mother and our church have similar recipes they use for parties and our church fall festival, but this is my favorite mixture of the two.

      Preparation

Start with preheating your oven to 250°.

Then pour all of the crackers into a large pan. I find the large foil pans are the best for making large batches of party mix. Plus they fit perfectly in the oven! I used 1 bag of oyster crackers, 2 bags of gold fish, 1 small box of wheat thins and 1 bag of pretzels. You can replace any of the crackers with any other type of crackers you enjoy. Personally I have also used Mini Club crackers, Mini Ritz and Cheese Nips in the past. I have never had a cracker that has been a bad addition to this recipe or similar ones!

After all the crackers and pretzels are in the pan, pour over the butter topping. Then Sprinkle over the Ranch Seasoning and Garlic Powder. Mix well until all crackers appear well coated.

Once all crackers and pretzels are dumped into the pan, cover them in the butter flavored oil and seasonings.

      Baking

Place the pan in the oven for a total of 30 minutes, stirring after 15 minutes. Once the mix has baked, let the ranch cracker mix cool. Then place it in an air tight container for storage.

    • Peanut Butter Popcorn Party Mix

I don’t recall for sure when my mother started making this party mix, but I know it was one of my favorite things to take to school as a snack and to have as a treat for my birthday! This year I thought this would be the perfect treat for New Years!

It doesn’t get any simpler to make a party mix than this one, and you can throw just about anything into it on top of what I have used. Our other additions have included Chex cereal, peanuts, different types of M&Ms and Reese puffs.

Starting out I put the Vanilla Almond Bark and peanut butter in the microwave on the melt chocolate feature. If you don’t have this, I used to do 30-45 seconds at a time stirring in between.

While the topping mix is melting in the microwave I gather the rest of my mix ingredients and dump them in a large bowl. Today I used the popcorn, pretzels, Cheerios, M&Ms, and Rice Crispies. I used plain home popped popcorn today, but you can use 2 bags of microwave popcorn in place of popping it yourself just make sure it’s homestyle and not buttered.

To make your popcorn for this recipe, use 1T of popcorn oil and 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels in your popper.

Once your topping mix is completely melted, make sure to mix the peanut butter in well with the almond bark. Then pour over the popcorn mix and mix well until everything is well coated.

Spread out your mixture to harden in a single layer on wax paper. This will take approx 1-2 hours. Then seal the mixture in an airtight container. I’ve found this will generally keep well for 5-7 days.

      Ingredients

Popcorn — either 2 bags of home style microwave or 1/4 cup of kernals popped

      1/2 bag of pretzels

      3 cups of Cheerios

      2 cups of Rice Crispies

      1 Cup of M&Ms

      Topping Mix

      2/3 cup peanut butter

      12 oz vanilla almond bark
